Orange diocesan Bishop Tod Brown has asked the Vatican to allow him to serve five more years beyond the mandatory canonical retirement age of 75, the alternative newspaper OC Weekly reports.
Bishop Brown turns 75 on Nov. 11, 2011, but, according to OC Weekly, he was written a letter to Pope Benedict XVI asking that he be allowed to stay on five more years so he can see the completion of the diocese’s new multi-million-dollar Cathedral of Christ Our Savior in Santa Ana.
